How to fix Fallout 4 crashing with Intel HD and Iris graphics

Many people have responded to my Fallout 4 performance videos asking how to fix the crashes whilst loading the game with Intel HD and Intel Iris graphics solutions. Fortunately thanks to Reddit user ‘wafflepath’ we now have a solution…

To solve the issue you should first find the Fallout4.exe file for your install and set Compatibility Mode to Windows 7. After you have done this to use DXCPL to limit the DirectX feature level used by the game to 11.0 for HD 4000 and later graphics, or 10.0 for HD 3000 (although I haven’t tested HD 3000 yet). This should fix the issues with the game crashing when loading.
